3rd/4th October 2025: Abstract Floral Painting with Lisa Parkyn
Thank you Penny Lamb for the write-up and photos, and Kate Sivier-Voller for more photos. On Friday 3rd October the members of Otter Vale Art Society and friends from Sidbury Art Group, were treated to an exciting demonstration from local mixed media artist Lisa Parkyn , of her expressive abstract florals. Her love of colour came from her background in Africa , particularly the desert. She studied graphic design but she didn’t get into painting in her distinctive style until much later when she moved to a looser look, deconstructing the the flowers , playing with shape, colour and line. Lisa pointed out that it’s important to pay attention to negative shapes, calm and busy areas, big and small subjects, and high points of contrasts. Lisa works in layers with acrylic paints ,inks and pastels and sometimes adds collage of various materials to add texture to the finished picture. On Saturday 4th members joined Lisa for a workshop to explore the beautiful autumn flora and fauna in the abstract style, using beach and countryside natural materials to form the initial loose image. We then added colour and textures , after cutting up the image to provide a different perspective on our work. We all learned a lot of techniques that we can use in our future art. Lisa used various techniques to produce this expressive painting. Typically, Lisa goes on to work further on a painting. https://lisaparkyn.com/ |
