5th February 2022: Trebarwith Strand landscape in Oils with Hester Berry
Thanks, Penny Lamb, for these photos and the write-up. CP Hester Berry ran an oil-painting workshop at Sidbury Village Hall. The selected view was of the amazing beach, cliffs, sea, and Gull Rock at Trebarwith Strand. Hester works in oils from the very darkest through to the lightest lights, mixing as she goes. She uses a soft chisel brush and a painting knife and occasionally a smaller brush. She used a mix of French ultramarine and burnt sienna for the initial black mix, adding other colours incrementally to get lighter. The clear blue sky and white clouds needed a clean brush and palette to avoid muddying the colours. The support was an Ampersand board which allowed the paint to flow on smoothly without the need for medium until later in the painting. The participants all enjoyed trying out the techniques that Hester showed us. |
